Birthday Poem

4-26-10

I didn't
forget
that it
was your
birthday;
I just
couldn't
say,
"I love you,"
without
betraying
myself.
And what
is a
birthday wish
without,
"I love you,"
but
empty words
on a
Hallmark card,
grabbed
and signed
with no
thought
other than,
"Get it done."

[I love you.]

Thing to be grateful for: Strength.

  1. I like that one. I think it's my favorite that you've posted so far.

  2. Thanks! That means a lot! Thanks for letting me know! When I finish my current back burner project (compiling 100 poems into some kind of book-thingy), I'll send it to you for editing, ok?

  3. I'm with Lauren on this; It's the easiest to identify with of yours that I've read. It's a nice sentiment that, while not too complex, nonetheless resonates with the reader in a pleasant and uplifting way.

  4. I'd be honored to edit, but I'm not at all sure that that would serve you well. Poetry is really not my strong suit at all. At all.
Logan, I didn't get pleasant and uplifting. I got wistful, uncomfortable and melancholy.
